Saurav Ganguly struck a patient hundred in India’s first innings 469 before debutant spinner Amit Mishra struck to reduce Australia to 104 for four at the close of the second day of the second test on Saturday.

Ganguly dug in to score 102, his 16th test century, and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni hammered 92 before he was the last man out shortly before tea.

The 36-year-old left hander, playing in his farewell series, added 109 runs for the seventh wicket with Dhoni to frustrate the Australian bowlers on a good batting pitch. Debutant seamer Peter Siddle and left-arm paceman Mitchell Johnson took three wickets each while leg-spinner Cameron White captured two.

Australia were in trouble at the close with both openers Matthew Hayden (0) and Simon Katich (33), skipper Ricky Ponting (5) and Michael Clarke (23) back in the pavilion.

India’s cricket chiefs are not pleased the touring Australians are being provided top-grade private training facilities at the start of their Test tour, a report said on Thursday.

“We won’t get these kind of facilities if India went abroad. We would have got the bare minimum,” the Cricketnext website quoted Indian cricket board official Ratnakar Shetty as saying.

“The RCA (Rajasthan Cricket Association) is being a little too obliging to the Australian team. They have done more than what a host country will do.”

Ricky Ponting’s men are in the midst of a week-long training schedule at the RCA’s cricket academy in Jaipur before the official part of the tour begins on October 2.

The Australians, who were not due in India till September 29, arrived a week early to acclimatize following the postponement of the Champions Trophy one-day tournament in Pakistan due to security concerns.

Former India coach and ex-Australia captain Greg Chappell, who is closely associated with the Rajasthan academy, ensured that excellent facilities were provided for his compatriots ahead of the four-Test series.

A fit-again Sachin Tendulkar is all set to make a comeback after a poor run with the bat in the three-Test series against Sri Lanka by taking part in the Irani Cup tie for Rest of India against Delhi at Vadodara from September 24-28.

“I will be participating in the Irani Trophy. Just now I’m fine,” declared the master batsman at a promotional event for Aviva Insurance of which he is a brand ambassador.

The selectors announced on Monday a near-strength Test squad for the annual tie from September 24-28 between last season’s Ranji Trophy champions (Delhi) and the Rest of India and are expected to name Tendulkar in the squad.

Tendulkar had to miss the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka after sustaining an elbow injury while fielding in the third and final match at Colombo.

The champion batsman could muster only 95 runs at a very dismal average of 15.83 per innings with 31 in the second innings of the second Test at Galle, won by India, as his highest score in the three-match Test rubber.

Meanwhile, Saurav Ganguly has been left out of the Irani Trophy after he failed to impress in the recently concluded test series against Sri Lanka. Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma, who was earlier included in the 15-man test squad for Sri Lanka, was also left out. With the Irani Cup game being touted as a warm-up game before the Australians arrive, it looks highly unlikely that either of these three will be named in the test squad. Ganguly, 36, might find it hard to get into the Indian side again .

Rest of India: Anil Kumble (c), Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, VVS Laxman, Wasim Jaffer, Mohammad Kaif, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Parthiv Patel, RP Singh, Ashok Dinda.

The second edition of the Champions Twenty20 League will take place between September 25 and October 11, 2009, and will feature 12 teams, four more than the inaugural version.

The dates were announced in a release issued by the three founding members – the BCCI, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa.

Next year’s tournament has been scheduled to be in the same month as the postponed Champions Trophy.

The 2009 Champions League will feature 12 teams and 23 matches as opposed to this year’s format which involves 8 teams and 15 matches.

The top two domestic teams from India, Australia, South Africa along with Middlesex (England) and Sialkot (Pakistan) will participate in this year’s tournament.
